Privacy Policy
Last updated: 16 July 2026
OpenLearn (“we”, “us”) provides a trilingual learning platform for students, parents, and teachers in Sri Lanka. This policy explains what information we collect, why we collect it, and how we handle it.
Information we collect
- Account details - name, email address or phone number, school, grade, and preferred language, provided when an account is created.
- Learning activity - lessons viewed, practice and quiz attempts, study time, and progress, used to power dashboards, recommendations, and reports.
- AI tutor conversations - messages sent to the AI tutor are stored so we can keep the tutor safe, accurate, and age-appropriate.
Children’s privacy
OpenLearn is used by school-age learners. Student accounts are created with the involvement of a parent, guardian, or school. We collect only the information needed to run the service, we never sell personal data, and parents can view their child’s activity through the parent portal. AI tutor conversations are moderated and logged for safety review.
How we use information
- To provide lessons, practice, progress tracking, and reports.
- To keep the AI tutor grounded in lesson content and safe for minors.
- To send service notifications (for example, weekly parent reports).
- To improve the product using aggregated, de-identified usage data.
Sharing
A student’s learning data is visible to their linked parents or guardians and to teachers of classes they belong to. We share data with service providers (hosting, video streaming, AI processing) only as needed to run OpenLearn, and never for advertising.
Retention & your choices
We keep account data while the account is active. You may request a copy of your data or deletion of your account at any time by contacting hello@openlearn.lk.
